Beautiful Mount Maunganui Beaches walking distance from Golden Grove Holiday Park

At the Beach

Mount Maunganui in the Bay of Plenty in New Zealand is absolutely stunning. With 100 km of white sandy beaches and the enticing blue ocean it certainly sparkles. Strong tropical swells make surfing conditions ideal.

The Mount has been one of New Zealand’s best loved holiday destinations for decades. As a main centre for summertime activities, it’s the place to be for everything from surf lifesaving events to beach volleyball, parasailing, sandcastle building, triathlons and surfing contests, through to boat racing.

Pilot Bay on the harbour side of the Mount is great for swimming and offers an excellent setting for windsurfing or kayaking. Cruise ships often visit Mount Maunganui in the summer months, welcoming tourists from around the world. Watching these huge vessels enter the harbour is a spectacular sight.

Surfers really love the beach at the Mount as there are many great spots to choose from. With a quick boat trip across the harbour entrance, surfers can indulge in world quality waves off Matakana Island. Mount Maunganui is also home to one of New Zealand’s first artificial surfing reefs (the Mount Reef Project), which will make surfing at the Mount even more popular!
